Stauffer, Trodd & Bernier, Picturing Frederick Douglass says: Waite was a friend of John Greenleaf Whittier and Theodore Parker. He operated a studio in Hartford from 1862 to 1879, then moved to Emporia, Kansas, in 1880 and continued to work there as a photographer until four years before his death.
