Beaufort Women’s History Walking Tour website says: William Elliot House, 1103 Bay Street. This house had several titles during the war to include the Union hospital (#11) and the mission house. Prior to the war, the house also known as “The Anchorage” housed one of Beaufort’s few Secessionist opponents. Even though William Elliot was vocally opposed to sucession, he was also a strong southerner, and when the war started, he supported the confederate cause.
