Beaufort Women’s History Walking Tour website says: Edgar Fripp House, 1 Laurens Street. Also known as the Tidlholm [sic] and built in 1856 by the then owner of Fripp Island. During the war, the house served as hospital number 7. Edward Philbrick, who travelled with Harriet Ware and was a northern missionary at St. Helena, wrote of staying here when he first arrived and burning “chips of polished mahogany” to keep warm. The new occupants had little regard for the southerners property and destroyed much of the beautiful furniture and other possessions.
