Between 1863 and 1865, albums of Andrew J. Russell photographs, all titled United States Military Railroad Photographic Album, were presented to various military and government individuals, with no two albums having the same selection of photos. Numbered, printed labels were affixed to the mounts for each photograph. The same label was occasionally attached to different photos in different albums, and the same photo occasionally had different labels attached in different albums.
