Gibson and Gibson, Dictionary of Transports and Combatant Vessels Steam and Sail Employed by the Union Army, 1861-1868 says: PROMETHEUS; screw steamer; 664 tons. At various times, the Navy used this vessel for supply carriage. Army utilization follows: Chartered Nov 25, 1862-Jan 26, 1863; Dec 13, 1863-Sept 9, 1865. Participated as a troopship in the successful assault against Fort Fisher, North Carolina, during Jan, 1865. In May-June 1865, transported troops to Texas.
