Gibson and Gibson, Dictionary of Transports and Combatant Vessels Steam and Sail Employed by the Union Army, 1861-1868 says: THOMAS A. SCOTT; screw steamer; 1052 tons. Chartered Mar 23-May 8, 1863. Purchased by the Quartermaster Department on June 9, 1863, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for $130,000. Was assigned to scheduled run, New York to New Orleans. Troop transport on expedition to Brownsville, Texas, Oct-Nov 1863. Record indicates vessel was owned by the United States on Oct 15, 1864. In May-June 1865, transported troops to Texas from Hampton Roads.
