Gibson and Gibson, Dictionary of Transports and Combatant Vessels Steam and Sail Employed by the Union Army, 1861-1868 says: MISSIONARY; 3rd class sternwheel river steamer; 66 tons; 115 tons. Built May 1864 by the Army at Bridgeport, Alabama, on the Tennessee River, for supplying Chattanooga. Cost of vessel was $15,000. Located at Chattanooga as of June 30, 1865; condition rated as good.Part of the Tennessee River Union Army supply fleet.
