No. 3196. Entrance to the Mine in the Rebel Fort Mahone, called by the soldiers “Fort Damnation.” This mine is situated in a deep gully, and was excavated about 600 yards. It was intended to undermine Fort Sedgwick. This view was taken the morning after the storming of Petersburgh [sic], Va., April 2d, 1865. [Anthony Co. stereo card]
