Haupt, United States Military Railway Department. Construction And Transportation. No. 38. Shows appearance of Bridge No. 36, after 168,000 lbs., in addition to the weight of the bridge, had stood on it for nine hours. The bridge settled about 2 inches below the level, but this was due to slipping of the boards at one end, where, for the sake of experiment, a different and less secure mode of fastening had been adopted than at the other end.
