Russell, United States Military Railroad Photographic Album. No. 123. Government coal wharf, Alexandria, Va. [Photograph shows two men on the shore of the Potomac River facing the wharf]
Huntington Library says: Coal Wharf, Alexandria Va. Handwritten in upper left corner: No. 23. 1863.
The sign over the buildings on the left reads Cumberland Coal & Iron Comp. It sits at the end of the Coal Wharf. Beyond it is the Steamboat Repair Wharf. The Georgetown & Alexandria Canal met the Potomac between the two wharves. Across the river is Maryland.
