Library of Congress, about panorama, says: View of Gettysburg from the Northwest First and Eleventh Corps on first day retreated across the fields in foreground, through the town to Cemetery Hill and Culps Hill, which are shown in the background beyond the town. Road on right is the Chambersburg pike. Embankment in centre is unfinished railroad. Large building on left is Pennsylvania College.
