Library of Congress says: Temporary bridge across Pamunkey River near White House Landing.
At left, fellow photographer Thomas C. Roche sits in front of a portable darkroom, on top of which sits Fowxs rotating lens, designed to make four small exposures on one larger glass plate negative. See Related Images AGQS for an example from this same spot.
Fowx and Roche traveled together, working both for Mathew Brady and for the War Department, under special orders from QMD General Meigs.
