Photographic Incidents of the War. No. 608. Antietam Bridge, on the Sharpsburg and Boonsboro Pike, southeast view. [Gardner Co. stereo card]
Photographic War History. The War For The Union. 1861-1865. No. 608. Burnside Bridge, Antietam, Sept., 1862. The assault and capture of this bridge, September 17, 1862, cost the Union army the lives of many of its gallant men. The history of the fight at this point is well worth reading. It will give some idea of what sacrifices were made that this “Government of the people, for the people, and by the people, should not perish from off the face of the earth.” [Taylor & Huntington stereo card]
MOLLUS Collection says: Bridge over the Antietam, on the left wing, which was carried by Burnside’s Corps, after a severe struggle.
