Memories of the War. No. 916. View on Battle Field of Cold Harbor. April 16, 1865. [Gardner Co. album card]
These died, that our Nation might live. We were driven from this field (Wilderness) before we could gather our wounded or bury our dead. This is the way we found the field covered when we returned some months later [Taylor Co. stereo card]
Photographic War History. The War For The Union. 1861-1865. No. 916. Unburied Dead on Battlefield. This photograph was made several months after the battle, on the field at Gaines’ Mills, Va. At the time of the fight our troops were obliged to abandon the field and leave the dead unburied. The skulls and skeleton remains of some of our unknown heroes are here seen on the spot where they gave up their lives for our country. [Taylor & Huntington stereo card]
