Photographic History. The War For The Union. 1861-1865. War Views. No. 42. A “Powder Monkey” on the Pawnee [sic]. The Pawnee is a wooden war vessel, called the fighting ship of the U. S. Navy. This view shows one of the boys (powder monkeys so called) whose duty it is to carry cartridges from the magazine to the guns during a fight : these boys know what it is to smell powder; this view is specially interesting to boys. [Taylor Co. stereo card]
