Abdill, Civil War Railroads, p162: This view of the bridge over the Chattahoochee River on the Western & Atlantic Railroad near Atlanta, Georgia, includes a novel piece of equipment… The odd car… was a self-propelled steam coach, used by Military Railroad officers as an inspection vehicle and as a pay car for distributing wages to the widely-scattered operations in the West… Very little is known about the origin of this car, although it may have come to the Military Railroads from some civilian line.

Library of Congress says: Bridge over Running Water Creek destroyed during the Civil War.
