The MOLLUS Collection says: Scouts and Guides of the Army of the Potomac. Army of the Potomac headquarters at Brandy Station; on duty at Secret Service Depot.

Miller, Photographic History of the Civil War, Vol. 8, p281 says: Later Scouts and Guides, Army of the Potomac. In this picture appears a group of scouts and guides headed by Lieutenant Robert Klein, Third Indiana Cavalry, who spent some time with the Army of the Potomac. On the ground by his side is his young son. Many of the men here depicted were among the most noted of the army’s secret-service men. Standing at the back are James Doughty, James Cammock, and Henry W. Dodd. On the ground are Dan Plue, W. J. Lee, __ Wood, Sanford Magee, and John W. Landegon. Seated at left is John Irving, and on the right is Daniel Cole.
