Library of Congress says: “Last strong hold on the Mississippi.” [Summary: Photograph shows the Port Hudson bluffs, looking down river. Battery No. 11, known as the Citadel, was the southernmost battery in the Confederate defenses is at upper left.]
MOLLUS Collection says: Port Hudson, 1863. The river guns were isolated with their parapets merely revetted with sods or pressed clay. The mound on the top of the Bluff is one of these.
