Heritage Auctions says: On April 24, 1865 in New York City Hall photographers Gurney & Son made this view of Abraham Lincoln in his casket. Admiral Charles H. Davis stand on the left – General Edward D. Townsend on the right. Mrs. Lincoln ordered the plates and prints destroyed. Secretary of War Stanton retained one copy. For some fifty years it was known to be missing. A few years ago it was located among the Nicolay papers. A print is now in the collection of Warren J. Harder thru the courtesy of Dr. Harry E. Pratt State Historian of Illinois.
