Library of Congress says: Walt Whitman, June 1887.
Walt Whitman Archive says: Frank Harned was the brother of Thomas Harned, Whitman’s close friend and one of his literary executors. Horace Traubel dates the photo 1886 or 1887 and identifies Frank Harned as the photographer; Whitman signed one copy in June 1887. This and another photo are the first images taken of Whitman in his home. Whitman liked Harned, but did not care for his photographs: “I don’t know why—never do. I have feelings about things, nothing more” (Horace Traubel, With Walt Whitman in Camden, Wednesday, July 4, 1888).
