MOLLUS Collection says: Sleigh-ride at Port Hudson, La., – January 1864. The officers on “jumper,” with one horse, are Gen’l Hamlin and another – name forgotten. On the sled – holding the lines is Captain Crawford, C.S.V., corps commmissary; to his right Capt. LeGrand W. Perce, A.Q.M vols – corps quartermaster; next and behind Capt. Crawford is Major John Langdon Ward, Commissary of Musters and Judge-Advocate; next, with kepi, Major Geo. B. Halsted, A.A.G. and standing close to him, wearing black campaign hat is Dr. Robert K. Smith, medical director. Between and in front of Major Ward and Major Halsted is a small boy, a relative of and living with Mrs. Smith, who is sitting on the box. Mrs. Smith is the only white woman in the garrison The man, – citizen, – standing in dark clothing is Mr. Doty, cotton speculator and standing next to him – in long light-blue [surtout?] – is Col. S. W. Quincy – inspector general .The man showing between the heads of Doty and Quincy is forgotten. At the tail-end is Mr. Luther, A.D.C.
